Hottest Daylilies for 2012

The Hottest Daylilies for 2012

The local daylily club here in Bismarck, North Dakota (Central North Dakota Daylily Society) had their fall meeting on October 15.  We hosted one of the most “in-demand” speakers, Paul Owen. As Paul says he has been a busy fellow. “In August, 2005, I managed to move 1100 named cultivars (from other hybridizers) and 10,000 seedling clumps (selected from nearly 40K) to Polkville, NC from the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. This was assuredly the most monumental task I’ve ever pulled off, I think I’ve certainly paid my dues when it comes to “proving” that my dedication to daylilies is truly unwavering.”

After presenting to more than 20 daylily clubs this summer, plus intriguing the English members of the British Hosta and Hemerocallis Society at Wisley Gardens, Paul finished his season with an overview of how he came to be a daylily hybridizer.  He finished his talk with images of his introductions, some of which we were able to purchase.  The next day, during a yummy breakfast at Peacock Alley, we snapped a few photos to remember the exciting visit from the ever energetic and funny Paul Owen.

  1. Susan —
Congratulations on your successful launch! I’ve enjoyed reading your introduction — you have lived in many interesting places, for sure — as well as your entries about daylilies and your work as a judge. Nice shot of Paul Owens and you!

    • Thanks Rick – it has been fun gathering information and photographs from all over the world, and I have so much to share.
